Weird level ATF on 09G

Yesterday I replaced the ATF again on the 09G, The fluid came out of the pan, but it was less than half a quart for some reason, the last time I put in 3 quarts.
I put 3 quarts again yesterday and the level was correct.

There is no leak anywhere I checked that.

How could this happen?

Did you remove the fill/level tube when you drained it?

It was low to begin with? If you don't follow the proper method for filling, it will most likely be low. You're monitoring temperature?
