I'm just disgusted by all the "small" cars that get horrific gas mileage.

19 city, 28 highway. I wouldn't be upset with this is the car had, say, a 250hp V6. But it has a TWO LITER 4-CYLINDER! The manual transmission version has similarly bad figures at 20/28. Really? That's disgusting.

Kias and Hyundais (until the recent 1.8L Elantra) were also pretty bad about bad mileage ratings. They're getting better. Not many other companies are. Look at the Mazda2 and the Fiesta. The Fiesta actually gets good mileage. The Mazda2 is ok, but doesn't do as well, and it has a SMALLER engine and weighs less. Explain that one to me.

I can understand Chevy putting the 1.8L engine in the base Cruze. But 22mpg city? That's pretty low. At least the 35mpg highway balances it out.

It's a very similar engine. The 2.0 appears to be made by Holden in Melbourne and the Cruze's 1.8 appears to be made in Hungary. I think the 1.8 Cruze has VVT

Daewoozukis had pretty poor mpg and hp ratings. The Verona had an odd transversely mounted inline 6. Made less horsepower than any other 2.5 6 cylinder. Got something like 17 mpg. I don't think it was a Holden engine. I think it was just Daewoo's.
