Hi guys, I searched for some answers regarding this but didn't find anything related. I JUST changed my oil using Mobil 1 10w30 Extended Performance and their EP filter. I am planning to change the oil once a year, which should be about 13k miles. I plan on getting the oil tested at about 7 to 8 k miles. I have a few questions:
INFO: I have a 2003 Saleen Mustang S281 (N/A) with 83k miles. I drive this car to work (mostly freeway miles) and do not track or drag race the car. Also, Ford specs 5w20 for this engine but Saleen specs 5w30.
1. Should I wait longer (more miles) to test so that I'll have a better idea of how long I should leave the oil in?
2. To install the new Quik Valve, would it be okay for me to drain out all of the fresh oil, install the valve and fill it back up with the same oil? I need a new drain pan anyway and plan on getting something like this: I ask because I am about 1% concerned that something in the pan could impact the UOA. I planned on at least cleaning the pan out with soap and water (just shake it up then rinse it out).
3. Initially I planned to do the yearly changes right before the beginning of the scorching Phoenix summers but I can see good arguments for doing it either before the summer or after it's over. Thoughts?
4. I was torn between 5w30 and 10w30 but since it's so hot here and I pretty much never drive this car to cold places (worst-case cold start temp in a Phoenix garage might be 35 to 40 or so degrees F) I chose 10w30. I'm guessing I'm losing some amount of gas mileage but we're probably talking less than 2%.
Thanks
