NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- After experiencing an initial shortage of T.M.X. Elmo, one of the hottest toys this year, Wal-Mart announced Tuesday that it has landed the Elmo jackpot and will sell 4,000 dolls every day this week on its Web site.

"We recently secured more Elmo inventory from our supplier and we wanted to give our customers one big opportunity get the toy before Christmas," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Linda Blakely said.

But some analysts weren't buying that explanation and even speculated that Wal-Mart may have been holding back Elmo inventory.

any surprise? Walmart is so creepy... if the country had a shortage of clean drinking water they would pull the same move.

WalMart bashing. Sheesh. Creepy? The fact that some non-share holding, non-management, non-employee people want to control a company so closely is REALLY creepy. WalMart is not overcharging, did not create the demand, and frankly underordered from China.

The last line summed it up.

"At this point everything that Wal-Mart does has a question mark around it," he said. "I don't know whether or not Wal-Mart was holding back the inventory for Elmo but these shortages occur because retailers are being very cautious about their inventory levels this year and they're not pulling enough supply from their vendors in a timely manner."

no, what is creepy are the weird people that I see in the store at any time of day or night...

And what else is creepy is the fact that the lines are always slow and long, even though theyre supposed to open up a new ine if there are more than 3 people in one...

its a scary place, I only go there for motor oil...

I was at Walmart last night and I notice most employees act as if they don't want to be working there.
dunno.gif
Maybe its the poverty wage Walmart pays.

shhh pablo is watching.

Wal-Mart did this to boost sales, they witheld the product to release it 2 weeks before x-mas....why? because their sales have been down, esp this season, why? maybe people are fidning it's easier, quicker, faster and clears one's conscious buying elsewhere.

if you don't know spanish, it can be hard trying to get info about something out of an employee... they usually just point and grunt at things

Tickle me unphased.

So WalMart pays less than Fred Meyer, Target, K-Mart, etc? (I don't know, actually) If so - don't work there!

Don't like the place? Don't shop there!

I just don't understand why people get their jollies telling WalMart how to run their business. It's kinda creepy.

Let's assume for the sake of argument, that Wal*Mart sat on inventory for this particular item, to offer it now.

So what?

assuming this is true (which it is) it goes to show what walmart will do to it's customer's to get ahead, they will hold back an item their customers want in order to release it later to drive up last minute holiday sales to benefit the bottom line and please wall st.... so to their customer's detriment, they conduct themselves in this manner.

honestly, I haven't shopped there in about 8 months - since the whole - I don't know spanish - thing happened and don't plan to, I just thought it was rather interesting, the tactics a retailer on the ropes will use, and on the ropes they are this holiday season....to my teen girly esque glee.

I'll gladly pay 20% more somewhere else for the comfort and satisfaction of knowing it didn't go to the machine.

I agree, work elsewhere.

one time I saw this giant lady working there, she had her shirt unbuttoned midway so she could display her awesome tattoo... this is who Walmart hires, white trash and uhh... well, we won't get into who else, they probably work at walmart because they are too trashy and uneducated to work at target or kmart.

I'm lucky. The garden center entrance is very near the oil section. You can avoid most of the cattle chute at the main entrance. I don't really get to view as much of humanity using this route.

It enhances my calm and I can "be well".
