I am currently 2200 miles into a ST 5W30(WPP made) and I am ready to change it as it's starting to darken a little.

Also there seems to be a little varnish build up where I don't remember seeing any with the M1 5W30 no matter how long the interval.Seems to be more cosmetic more than anything(no consumption)but still this bothers me.I was hoping to stick with dino and get clean internals and be cheap about it but it seems that this engine stays the cleanest with M1 5W30.

With M1 I always used their 5W30 but their other grades seem enticing too.I was thinking about using 1qt of:0W20,5W30,10W30,0W40 to make a cocktail of oil to fill the 4qt sump in my 1ZZ engine which specs 5W30.

I am also thinking of trying just 0W20 now that I am out of the powertrain warranty.

If you still have interest in dino oil, I wouldn't give up on it just yet. At 26,000 miles, my 2002 ride still doesn't show a hint of sludge or varnish on the Citgo I managed to score for 36 cents/qt. Your situation MIGHT be different if you tried Chevron, Pennzoil, Motorcraft, etc. Or certainly different if you tried mixed fleet HDEO.

Alan,
I love mixin' brews to see what works the best...so I'm bias when it comes to questions like yours. If your mfg's recomdations are 5w30 then by all means do a qt or 2 of M1 5w30 with a qt of M1 0w20 and throw in a qt of Redline or M1 Racing 0w30 and let 'er rip! I've tried similar mixes w/ M1 and Amsoil, M1 and German Castrol, and reg M1 and M1 Racing. Have thought about M1 and Redline or RP...but haven't made that plunge yet...my '03 Civic prefers the M1 / Amsoil brew the best (smoothness, vibration at idle, acceleration, mpg, etc...).

Have fun...and of course, buckle up and perform at least a couple of Used Oil Analysis to see how things are doing inside that engine with the oil brew you use!!

I tried another dino

,this time Chevron 5W30.I hope it will clean up the ever so slight(cleans with a finger wipe) buildup around the filler cap area which seems to be an area where the oil likes to sit.
