Are there any experts around these parts, or do I have to google it myself?

EDIT: I googled it:

VW PV-5106: Volkswagen Cam & Tappet Valve Train Wear Test

T4VW/PV-1449: Prüfung der Eignung für Ottomotoren mit verlängerten Ölwechselintervallen/ tests suitability of Otto engine with extended drain

Can't find more specific info...

Yes the conveience of google. VW T4 and VW 5106 just sound very familar to me. I think on the Castrol oil bottles it mentions something about that. On castrol's site, the Syntec lists VW T4 for some grades and the Heavy Duty 30 and 40 lists the VW 5106. If I were to guess, those were old VW oil designations which are now replaced by VW 50x.

This 53 page PDF has some listings not commonly spoke of here in terms of test procedures .

You'll see for example ACEA A1 TU3MH was the equivalent of the defunct Sequence IIIE at one time .
I don't have a clue as to if the ACEA have upgraded their testing procedures since then other than the TU3MH test bench used to measure the resistance of the lubricant to oxidation within the framework of ACEA 98 has been replaced by a test on the TU5JP test bench which is infinitely more demanding and more representative of current engine constraints over extended periods between oil changes .

This new TU5JP test does include testing at temps of 40c and lower for oxidative thickening which they have taken note as a primary problem with fuel mileage during the warm-up phase .

I do a search for your specific question to see what I can come up with ...... this is a reasonably good read though .

Be patient , it takes a while to load
