I've got some gear oil laying around. Being the cheap b#stard that I am, I have a two fold question:
1. Was the VW/Audi 75w-90 gear oil meant to be used in rear ends, or is it strictly a tranny oil?
2. Other than possible additives clash (or a negative answer to Q.1), is there any reason why I shouldn't mix a quart of this VW/Audi gear oil, with a quart of GM rear end fluid, and a quart of Castrol Hypoy for a '94 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD rear end application. The change interval would be relativelly short, approximatelly 15k.
Yes, I know gear oil is cheap and I should just get the proper f^^^n lube. But what fun would that be?
