Here's a thread on it... but not much info.
VW511.00 backward compatibility
We've got Castrol Edge M 5w-40 and Mobil ESP 0w-40 meeting this new spec but do we know anything about backward compatibility? There's no backward compatibility for Porsche engines but what about VAG?

I did find this blurb in a Castrol announcement:

Castrol EDGE 5W-40 M meanwhile is a full synthetic engine oil carrying VW 511 00 and Porsche C40 approvals, making it suitable for several new high-performance models from VW, Audi and Porsche. This includes the emerging requirements of new Audi RS6, RS7 and RSQ8 models, as well as Porsche models fitted with GPF’s (Gasoline Particulate Filters).
One might guess it drives the SA requirement down lower than 504 00.

If you buy an RS6 Avant, yeah, mpgs aren't even part of that discussion...aahhahaa
Yes, I have a zero f's given w/r to mpgs on all of my cars...hahahaYeah but I just mean in general.
511 is for Euro vehicles which recommend a 40w that is GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filters) compatible. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Yes, and probably other requirements in line with VW504.00/507.00 just higher HTHS.
Also, Motul 5W40 X-Clean Gen2, that is on US market for some time is VW511.00.
Do you reckon this may be a good hard-use oil choice for my VW?
I would say any DI VW, especially tuned. Motul X-Clean Gen2 has HTHS of 3.9. Excellent result for such KV100.
That rs6 avant sure is menacing in person ! Beautiful car
