Elf has just released a new product, Solaris LLX 5w-30 which meets the latest VW 504/507.
http://www.turbofrogperformance.com/Products/Engine/ELF_Oil.htm

I guess that this is the first "low SAP" lubricant in the U.S. (correct me if I am wrong) The new VW 504/507 specification will replace all 502, 503.01, 505, 505.01 and 506.01. This ain't no cheap oil.
I've heard that new VW/Audi 2.0T FSI and 3.2 FSI engines in Europe mandate 504/507 oil spec, but the same engines in the U.S. will be still using 502 spec oil. Anyway, I guess choosing a right spec oil for VW (gasoline and diesel) and Audi owners.

I suspect Castrol will bring over a product that meets these specs; if SLX (GC) is indeed going to start production in the US that may be the precursor move to importing the low-SAPS products. It is also possible it will only be available through dealers. REGARDLESS, if I get another Audi, with the new FSI engines, I will use this oil if Castrol does not bring in a version of their low-SAPS product. That would be no problem because my oil would still be Elf-supplied.

Remember when I posted regarding VW 504/507 a couple moths ago? Also remember how I said thin oils were not in the near future for at least VW and Audi, because the new specs required HTHS 3.5? The low HTHS spec are actually being dropped, well sort of. They don't want to shock customers into realizing the low HTHS oils weren't all that great.

VW 504 and VW 507 are not quite Low-SAPS, more like medium-SAPS. I doubt the spec is better than VW 502 or VW 503.01, just more environmentally friendly and easier on the emissions control components.

I could accept that!

buster, you got a spec sheet on that Mobil oil?

The US is going in the opposite direction in terms of HT/HS. Seems only German cars are calling for these types of oils.

And you are wondering why that is, I suppose. For the sake of peace of mind, let's just assumme German engines are so terribly sensitive that they need all the protection they can get, while everybody else's engines would run fine on canola oil.

Stoled my thunder, moribundman.

But to be fair, I think those Teutonic engineers just assume a higher HTHS, and thus higher viscosity as being the norm and design their engines accordingly. American engineers took the less viscous/lower HTHS 5w30s fork-in-the road in the 80's and haven't looked back. The Japanese seemed to have covered both bases.
