I was so sure my next car would be an Equinox EV in a couple years. But now Volvo comes out with an affordable good looking car! I would never consider a Volvo except this looks good inside and out, and the price is right.

Anyone else like what they see? Specs are thin right now but look forward to learning more and how it compares to the Equinox EV when both are actually in existence.

Very small .... but it has that tablet holder in the center of the dash so you can just place your tablet there while you are driving:

I must be getting old, I remember when cars came with vase holder (New Beetle). Is a tablet holder akin to the new flower holder? So everyone has something pretty to look at while driving?

well they came up with the tablet holder after the realizing so many people live in their cars now in California.. so they can have entertainment while hanging out in the car.

Well...

1) I owned a c40 p8 ultimate. It cost 62k. It felt amd was very bare bones. The ex30 is a Chinese car, subject to a 27% import tariff, and costing $35k. Its going to be absolutely bare bones.

2) All that power and a 112mph top speed. Lame. It will bang off the limiter just running a 1/4.

3) Volvo has issues with quality. I cannot even imagine a stripped down budget Volvo from China. Have fun with that.

Parts of the dash/door panels look like cheesy formica you'd find in a 30+ year old home...

Long term reliability and quality is a major concern. Am I wrongly assuming that most of the issues with an ICE Volvo will be avoided by the EV version? Or is it going to break as well?

I dunno, I wasn't super stoked with my Volvo EV.

-Multiple TCAM issues
-Vibrating axles (Volvo now acknowledges the axles are flawed, and need to be re-engineered).

I would have concerns about Volvo too, but these are a different animal from your ICE experience and Volvo are pretty popular cars so only time will tell. Their area a lot on the roads here, maybe because some are produced in SC I dont know but I see them all the time.

Except in car enthusiast forums no one cares about HP our top speed. Of course I know BITOG is one of those but the typical American could care less. Same as most bikers could care less if their $30,000 motorcycle has an electronic limiter. Typically around the 112 MPH mark.

Actually there's a lot more truth to this than you realize. Certain brands have an overwhelmingly coastal customer base and Volvo's prime audience has been in the Northeast and West Coast for decades.

I think this is an innovation that will stay with a lot of EVs as time goes on. So long as the tablet has the hardware needed to handle Volvo's software this will be a hit, and yes, I do see people plugging into the grid and sleeping in their Volvos in California and elsewhere.

yep that is what came to mind.. and of course I was joking around but I get that vibe from certain brands so that is how I created the joke LOL

Yeah, I’m not worried about being able to go more than 112MPH. I’m worried about having a good car for let’s say 10 years LOL.

I mean if they didn't do anything more than look pretty, sure...

The vase made a decent little ash tray. I threw the stupid thing in the trash.
