VIPER V-10 Marine Engine Oil Recommendations?

I have (2) Ilmor Viper V-10 engines, (625 hp@) and they recommend to use Mobil 1 15w50. Nothing was said about "Extended Use" or the new Mobil 1 5w50 oil. These are the same basic motors as the Dodge Viper, just souped up and no emissions and where I am we have 93 octane.

What might be a better oil than this? I know M-1 recently came back out with the standard Mobil 1 5w50 oil that says "It's New"! What's the real difference between the "Extended" and the new Mobil 1 5w50 new oil?

I run these motors a lot between 4,000 & 5,500 rpms and I do watch the oil temps and I use Perolater "Pure One" oil filters and I change the oil every 25 hours.

What is a better oil for these conditions & use? The Boat does not stay in the water and it has a closed cooling system and the top temps run about 160-165 degrees The Top oil temps run at about 190 degrees at full throttle runs and at cruising I see about 150 to 160 degrees in oil temps.

I've run Redline Oil before, but being on the east coast the shipping kills me. I need something I can buy every where that will give me the best protection for the $$$

Give me your real thoughts on this!

If you want to run Redline, members of this forum have stated that if you get it from summit racing, you are only charged a flat fee of $10.95 for shipping. Summit is located in Ohio.

Given the fact that you change it often and that it also does not see really cold starts, I'd run a 15W40 diesel such as Rotella T. The only advantage to synthetic would be extended drain intervals, which you are not concerned with.

The motorsports shop I've been dealing with said their Viper race cars would have valve train noise with Redline and high oil temp problems with Mobil 1. When they switched to the Motul 15w-50 300V no more valve train noise and no more oil temp problems.

REGULAR Mobil 1 15w-15, Pennzoil Platinum 15w-50 would be the best OTC oils for the money/performance. If you decide to order I would use Amsoil 20w-50 Series 2000. That is a very good oil.

Mobil 1 15W50 but not the EP stuff,Redline 10W40 or 15W40,Amsoil 20W50 and 15W40,Motul 5W40 would also do well.

Come to think of it Motul will cost you more and it's likely not any better then what Pablo has suggested. If you bought the AMSOIL as a customer you would get a swell deal on their great racing oils. That's all I'll use is AMSOIL and Motul. That's just me.

Well since you monitor the oil temps and are looking for a good oil that is available everywhere I would like to say Valvoline VR-1 Racing Oil. I was gonna recommend Amsoil but to avoid shipping costs head to your local Napa and get some VR-1.

I would guess that the boat is an offshore racer type? The oil temps when crusing and at w.o.t. would dictate what viscosity and is a syn oil is needed . Your oil temps don't appear high enough to warrant the extra $$$ for the syn oil. The engines must be well setup with an oil cooler etc. The 15w40 HDEO oils can't be beat. But the recommended oil is always a good idea.
