Out for a walk with friends a few days ago, and spotted this beautifully restored '59 El Camino. The original powertrain has been replaced by a 350 crate motor/4-speed automatic. Talked to the owner who did the work over four years. He farmed out the body and paint to a friend, but did the mechanical work himself.

Sounded nice with whatever exhaust system he'd used - but I doubt the cam in the crate motor was anything too wild.

Is that '55 a factory production or a one-off? I've never seen one before.

I always thought the '59 Chevrolet was the first North American version. They've had them forever in Australia ("Utes") of course.
