Valvoline Conventional 5W-30--- aka--- Valvoline White Bottle

This oil change was done right before our family road-trip.
Using AC-Delco PF-48E.

Los Angeles to Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Round trip was 3,610 miles.

The next 1,303 miles consisted of my daily commute to work.

My commute has changed.
I used to drive about 20 miles each way. 22 MPG average.

Now- 5.5 miles each way to the train station and ride in. 17 MPG average now (traffic lights to the station).

For the trip.
4 on board, along with an adult German Shepherd.
Luggage, other cargo, and lots of vacuum packed clothes to give away to children in the rural areas.
The cargo area was full as well as a roof cargo bag.

We did not travel 'lightly'.

AC used 90% of the trip.
Hottest temps- 112 between Texas and Indio,CA.
High humidity in Mexico with temps 90-98 depending on altitude.

Low Iron---- which to me- suggest- the timing chain is doing good-- would this be a correct statement?
I did add 1.2 quarts total to keep the level up to the full mark.
OLM was at 50% when I drained the oil.

Nice report, maybe I missed it but what did you fill it up with for this oci? Perfect time to start using some Valvoline Maxlife since the SUV is starting to consume a little oil. At a minimum that's what I'd start using for top up oil.

Nice Report, thanks for posting and for the map.
That Valvoline conventional looked after you fine.

This vehicle has used Valvoline conventional since new.

My engine uses oil- depending on how its driven. (What Ive noticed)
For the earlier UOA- I never added oil- as I wanted results based on no new oil being added.

Sometimes I would drain out 4.5, 5, 5.2, 4.75 etc.

But other times- like this one- I added oil to keep the level up to the Full mark.
especially with other 3.6's (2009/2010) showing high iron and getting timing chain issues.

Looks very good, as usual VWB does well in lots of things

Judging by the OP's earlier TBNs, VWB looks pretty well spent by 5,000 miles in this application.

Nice report - Valvoline never looks that good "on paper", but always turns in good UOAs. As long as you're keeping it topped off, you can likely stretch your OCI a bit.

Not on this engine.
taking into consideration all the other folks who are getting high iron and timing chain problems....
Ill stick with what is working.

I did ask about extended use recommendation on some of the UOA- they ranged in the 6,000 to 7,000 range.
But 5,000 is a good number.
I would go 6-7,000 if I was on a looong road trip-
But with So Cal weather traffic- 5,000 is good enough.

the 2010's- did not call for Dexos oil.
Only the GM906xxx something.

My other 3.6 does call for Dexos.

I thought about this.
But sometimes you just get the itch to change at that 'magical' number...

you guys remember Adrian Monk--- from the TV show---
always had to be a nice number--- like 100, not 97 or 94...

in this case--- it was 50% (but at 4,9xx miles ).....

I wouldn't change a thing. Low fuel, high flash, low insols, low "wear", strong ending viscosity.

I doubt you could find a better report on this engine with any oil at any OCI.
