Hi everyone,

I got an oilchange in my two BMW's coming up. One is a non DPF BMW X5 3.0 Diesel, the other is a BMW 750i biturbo. After looking through what is available here in Poland, I decided on Valvoline 5W30 full synthetic.

Problem is...which one? They seem the same to me, please help

Both are LL-04 so for a BMW requiring LL-04 you can use either. MST is probably the "go to" std recommendation for LL-04 and maybe a little cheaper. XL-III is more intended for VW as it carries VW507.

Starting TBN is one thing, but then there is the rate of TBN depletion. Depending on the underlying additive chemistry, the TBN in that XL-III oil might deplete more slowly than MST C3.

Nemesis, how often are you planning to change oil in these two vehicles?

Witaj na forum.

Pozdrawiam!

The XL-III is the low-SAPS VW 504/507 product. There's no reason to use this oil if you don't have a vehicle that specifies it.

The first product listed - Xtreme MST C3 would be my choice of these two.

My car does require the XL-III but Valvoline doesn't sell it in the USA in quantities smaller than 55 gallon drums. I'd love to buy a drum but,,, whew that would be overkill.
