Valvoline Restore & Protect

I would like to share that one of the cars I take care of, a 231,000 mile 2005 Subaru Outback non turbo 4 cylinder manual transmission car has had a large reduction in oil consumption in just its first oil change.

The owner changes its oil and tops off.

Went from 1 quart per 450-600 miles to 1 quart per 1,200 miles during its first oil change currently 3400 miles in.

The car tows a trailer nearly every day during the spring-fall. The engine has a new lease on life.

Valvoline can you please make this oil available in the USA in a 40 grade so this engine can have a more appropriate towing grade of oil as instructed by owners manual

I wonder if we'll see any manufacturers recommend it for vehicles under warranty (extended?) that has a consumption issue.

I've used Maxlife off and on for over twenty years. It's always helped. On my current vehicle, it stopped leaks that occured when I put Mobil 1 0w40 in my old van. It had run full synthetic for years, but something about that oil caused it to start leaking in a major way. I dumped it and replaced with Maxlife synblend, and it stopped all the leaking. I'm sure there are other fine high mileage oils out there, but my personal experience with Maxlife has been very positive.

I'm running VRP now with no leaking issues. But if it starts, I'm right back to some flavor of Maxlife.

Just squires 3 jugs R&P 5w30 in trade with my good friend. What should I put it in? You vote and I’ll do it. Focus, or Dakota
Do you have a Dodge that still runs? 🤣👍

Why don't you look under the oil cap of both ones and take a nice single picture and you decide which one probably needs the cleaning more. If it was me I would go with the Ford as I don't like seeing oil go to a waste but I trust your judgment so at the end of the day you know which one will benefit from it more

My guess is VRP would expose/clean seals and leaks could get worse. It's the seal conditioner component that would help swell/condition seals back to normal. But the leak would not be caused by VRP, just cleaned to the point it would expose the leak.
I'm thinking this is the case for my 05 Camry 2AZ, currently got 246K miles on it. I haven't seen my oil consumption get this bad with around 0.5qt burned this past 700 miles. I started to notice more consumption once I switched to R&P 2 OCIs ago, but unsure if it's my driving habits as well that caused a difference.

Been using my car to travel around a lot of construction job sites so it's been a lot of highway on ramps and excessive city driving.

Keep us updated as you continue through your next oci. Those Camry's around that time were some oil drinking dudes. Nothing at all may be able to help it.

It's not the end of the world, but I guess it's probably time the valve seats/piston rings are going at it. I have Pennzoil Ultra Platinum High Mileage that I'm probably switching back to once I run out of R&P.

Didn't really notice much oil consumption when I was running Kirkland Oil.

Will Valvoline come out with a Restore and Protect - High Mileage version ? It would seem like a natural progression to expand the series .
It does. I think it would sell as well or better than the regular version. Id buy it.

I think that it’s already being marketed as something you want to use in higher mileage engines so I doubt that they would have any other version of it. They will probably just come out with different viscosities

One in a million... a neighbors often short tripped 80,000 mile 2018 2.4L Hyundai Sonata I take care of. Not any measurable amount of Valvoline Restore and Protect consumed in 5,100 miles. No odor of gasoline in the used oil, the color of the 5,100 mile oil is quite golden still, and is exactly to the amount I (slightly) overfilled it to when I changed the oil.

It will receive VRP for the foreseeable future.

I actually just wrote an email to their product support tonight asking them to clarify how VRP compares to their high mileage oils with regard to seal conditioners and anti-wear additives. I will update if I hear back anything of value.
