Was thinking about the long-term ramifications of using Valvoline Restore & Protect. Just wondering if there are any downsides to using it. Could VRP be harder on engine gaskets and seals than other oils? Because it chews up sludge and varnish, could it also chew on gaskets and seals?

No. It is an API SP licensed oil. If that is what you want or need then it is fine for any use.

The cons are once the hype is over folks will chase after the next marketing campaign, just like AI, just like block chain before that.
Oil quality changes over time. Today's oils are several steps above the German Castrol that used to be the bee's knees here at one time. It is expected that a new 'hype' will appear.

It's lower HTHS than I would like.

If Valvoline could offer a Euro version of R&P it would be great. Or even just plain API but in off their weights like 5w-40, 0w-40 or even 0w-30.

It didn’t matter to me with my Corvette when I got it. I started running ESP 5w-30 right away and didn’t care about the dexos 1 approval one bit.
That was your choice, but is not the market expectation.

A dealer evaluating whether oil changes were accomplished is not likely to require you to prove that you used a Dexos oil, just that oil changes were done at the correct mileage or early.
It isn’t always a dealer decision. If dealer is asked to provide records and part receipts to get warranty approval for a repair, it may be out of their hands.
