Does anyone know how to decipher the printed code on Valvoline motor oil bottles? Just curious what info it provides (production location and date, etc.)

I called them a few months ago. I have a bottle here marked "F253C2." The F is June (A=Jan throught L=Dec). It's the 25th day of the month, and the year is 2003. So that is the date it was packaged. The "C2" has to do with bottling plant, or whatever, not date though.

Thanks TallPaul!

Guys, look at the bottom of every Valvoline container.

Besides the codes printed above at every SKU/bar code, you would see a sheen from a light(I use a glare of a lampshade)but very faint, a series of numbers..dates. You gotta have good eyesight to see these. I discovered these seemingly by accident.

I have in front of me a qt bottle of Maxlife Syn 5w30, Durablend 10w40 and a jug of Synpower 10w30.

The Maxlife reads "09/08/03 09:00 45 4".
Durablend reads "03/05/04 17:15 45 4".
The jug Synpower has "HK 03 322 08:18"

I checked a bottle of Durablend 10w-30:

Printed on label above the UPC: G264H 12:15
Printed on bottom of bottle: 07/18/04 21:38 45 4

A difference of 8 days between the two codes. Looks like the bottom date code is when the bottle is actually filled.

Looks like the bottle production runs ahead of filling by a week or so. The same printed code is on NAPA and I actually saw a similar code on some Kendall in AutoZone closeout, making me wonder if Ashland once bottled Kendall. Also Marathon is owned by Ashland. I should look at their code next time I gas up.
