Valvoline Import Multi-Vehicle ATF $20.24/gal on Amazon

I got a deal on some last year, I think <$3 a quart. It's running in my transfer case and power steering at the moment in lieu of ATF+4.

I was shopping for some Toyota WS recently, and was surprised thatr this atF does not meet WS. Guss it is an older formula, like Dex3-Dex6 thing.

This stuff is a little on the thick side for WS, thus the claimed compatibility with T-IV, etc. Valv actually lists this as a full syn Dex III.

Maxlife is the closer viscosity match for WS and Dex VI.

I'm glad it's working for you. PS and transfer cases are forgiving.
I've always read and heard that ATF+4 is one transmission fluid from which you do not want to stray.
No personal experience.
True. Maxlife did not work well in my 96 Jeep or 2001 jeep. ATF+4 is the only way. I dont think maxlife is ATF+4

This is a high viscosity version of maxlife.

Works well in Dex3 trans that like higher viscosity fluids also. Similar to the High Mileage Green castrol ATF.

I bought the same stuff last week and I'm using it in a lathe headstock.
Been doing so for decades..the price on this was good too. New to me though...this brand.

And that is exactly why it's in my tcase and ps. Those systems give zero cares about friction modifiers. Brave be the soul that substitutes for ATF+4 in a stock 68rfe behind a 6.7, especially when the right stuff is regularly <$25 a gallon.

ATF+4 and Maxlife are not good matches for either viscosity or friction modifier content and I would never promote substitution in an application that cared. Maxlife is a closer match for Dex IV, WS, etc.

It has BMW LT71141. For the past 20+ years I have only used the factory BMW fluid or ZF Lifeguard 5 in my 2001 BMW. Is this legit that it can have 20+ Valvoline recommended applications and work well in all of them?

My E39 540 had a ZF 5HP24 transmission. First drain & fill got the Esso LT71141 @ $17/lt in 2003. I quickly got tired of that and switched to a steady diet of the Valvoline blue jug every 40k miles. Tranny ran smooth for over 220k miles. Only issue was that transmission is uber sensitive to getting the fluid level correct or it will act grumpy when cold.

Yeah, I had a shop do that...it had jerky shifting while cold after a fluid and filter change, would smooth out once warm and fluid expanded...it was low about 1.5 liters. Haven't had a problem since, as I use a different shop...transmission now has 373,000 miles. I attribute it to regular fluid and filter changes.

Pretty much this. ATF +4 really does not have a compatible universal fluid on the market that will cover it. They are usually to thin or thick in viscosity and none will meet the cold flow requirements. I have only seen one ATF fluid by AMSOIL that they say will work in ATF +4 applications but only down to -38C.

If it's -38C I'm not leaving the house!
