how good is it? I'm planning on putting amsoil atf in my wife's duramax's allison but the local napa has this stuff on sale for $4 a quart (after tax).
thanks

Dexron VI is a much better fluid than Dexron III, but when compared to Amsoil, I would say Amsoil is a much better fluid.

Is the Dexron VI recommended for the Allison transmission? You may want to verify that first.

I'm a GM tech, and I can confirm that Dexron VI is ok for the Allison. In fact it's good for any transmission that used Dexron IIE or III.

Frankly it's good enough that there isn't much of a point in using the Amsoil stuff. Not to step on any toes, whatever is your preference is fine.

Ringe, I thought there was a separate spec for the Allison trannys when the rest of GM was using DexIII, but that some of the DexIII met that spec (but didn't have to, as it wasn't part of the DexIII spec). Have they consolidated that completely, or is there still a separate spec that GM just meets with their DexVI?

$4 a quart? About time the price drops to realty. At that price, it would be an easy choice for regular maintenance intervals.
At $6-7 a quart(typical around here), I usually won't even consider Dex6 where its not required.
