Here are some pics of my old engine's internals. It lived on SuperTech for a long time, then a few changes of Royal Purple, then Mobil1 0w-30 until the last couple of years when I started using whatever synthetic was on sale at work.

Piston tops:

Wet on the surface only. When you wipe it with a finger, it comes off like ash.

The varnish and ash deposits actually look a LOT worse in these pictures than in real life.

I don't think i have seen an impressive echotech torn down. The OLM with these and dino usually produces some pretty heavy varnish and some sludge.

Surely a candidate for full synthetic all the time.

Thanks!

These aren't the sparkly-clean images we've come to expect from synthetics. I see you have a burned valve. Was the engine overheated?

No, never overheated. The only thing I can figure is the valve got burned when my factory coil failed. I can't remember if my pinging problem started at that time or not.

I see where the piston kissed the valves when the rod let loose.

One of the exhaust valves on #3. It's the bottom leftmost valve in the last picture.

I'm guessing this is the 2.2 out of his grenaded Cavalier- the one that ingested water and later broke a connecting rod.

Yes, my bad. When I think 2.2, I automatically think Cavalier...
