Any ideas on a more permanent solution? we bought this vac in 2015 and it really sucks. Seriously, it’s awesome. :poop:

Anyway, the pivot point of the shaft where it meets the head is retained by a really thin pieces of plastic that wasn‘t even full width the whole way around! As you can guess it snapped and the whole shaft slides right out, with only the power cable left holding the two parts together.

I was able to notch the relatively soft plastic in the front and use zip ties at an angle to retain the brush head to the shaft. It’s been working well, but if that notch wears out I might be screwed.

Thoughts?

We have a Hoover that has some design issues with the hose that caused it to crack. Unfortunately there arent any service parts for it so I had to McGyver it.

Might it help to reinforce the non moving parts with JB Weld or equivalent?
The whole joint rotates. If you look closely at the pic from the back you’ll see where the retaining piece broke off on the left and right side - the piece that snapped wraps around the back of the shaft and the plastic nubbins was blocked by that piece to keep the shaft from sliding out. I still have the pieces. I’ll try to get a pic tonight if none of this makes sense.

It worse comes to worst I will be willing to lose the ability to pivot the head to keep this thing in operation.

If I were in your situation, I think I would use it until it breaks again, then replace the unit.

I respect those who attempt to repair rather than replace. Kudos.

It’s almost like you need to analyze and determine what might break sometime in the future and order parts with the new devices while the parts are still available.

Thanks, and I agree.

It’s really just a great vacuum. My wife was using a portable vac to spot clean and the carpet in the living room looked pretty good (we have a dog that sheds like crazy). When I finished jury rigging this I did a good thorough pass through just the living room and filled the canister to the full line (actually halfway; dirt accumulates on one side mostly due to cyclone action)
