Usually use 5w40 Castrol Edge Euro but how is the new GTX full synthetic

I have the 5w40 Edge in my Audi now but I can use 5w30 so I grabbed a GTX full synthetic when I saw it on sale. It was under $20 after rebate for 5 qt jug. I know it replaced the Magnetec that had a VW 502.00 spec but the new oil doesn't or Castrol just hasn't done all the testing yet. I'm considering using it anyway next year with some Ligui Moly Mos2 wear additive. Does that sound feasable? Its a 2008 A3 with the 3.2 VR6 engine like the Golf R32, has no oil usage even at 89k miles. I've always used 5w40 or 0w40 Edge up to this point but those are becoming harder to find in my area.

Castrol Edge Euro 5W-30 has VW 502, but I do not believe any of the GTX products have that spec in the USA.

GTX is unlikely to meet the minimum required HTHS for your application.

Why not Shell Euro 5w40 or M1 FS in a 40 grade?

NO, NO and ABSOLUTELY NO!
GTX is for the lack of better word, bottom of the barrel synthetic oil in Castrol line up.in 3.2FSI you REALLY, REALLY want robust, 5W40 VW502.00 oil. That is fuel dilution monster, and you need thick stuff.
NEVER deviate from approvals! Approvals are there for a reason. Personally, I would go Mobil1 5W40 FS or Mobil1 0W40 FS over Castrol Edge 5W40.

It's technically inadequate but one run isn't gonna do squat lets just be honest, it's not too thin like a 20 grade which is where I'd draw the line. Some on here might panic but I can't imagine how many of these are on the road which only got lower quality 5/10w-30 or 10w-40 at the quick lube place from new to 100k+ with 3k intervals and ran like new when they got traded in. I'd just run it for 3k miles less than you normally do and go back to a euro rated oil.

As has already been noted, you can use a 5W-30 but one that has the correct approval. Grade is irrelevant here with the VW approval since it is based on a minimum HT/HS.

Several inexpensive oils available with VW 502 00 approval. Get the least expensive one and forget about grade being a consideration.

Not many, for a reason. That thing will easily dump 5% fuel in it.

My Walmart didn't have any Euro 5w30 only the Euro 5w40 which I normally buy. Its stocked according to local trends is my guess.

Wrong oil and for the money wasted on the oil additive you could get the right oil!
Yep, not sure if I worded it right that I bought the 5w30 FS GTX not noticing that even though it replaced Magnetec it no longer met the 502.00 spec

I don’t understand the adding liquid moly anti wear part.
What does it do?
Maybe I’m missing out on something here.
I occasionally add the moly additive. You'd have to search out the reviews. It works for me. I've used it in a few cars. The biggest thing I've seen is quiet running and smoother operation. Supposedly better fuel economy but I get over the EPA ratings on my car after a performance tune so its hard to say. My city mileage before the Unitronic tune was 19 , after its 21. My highway mileage was about 25-26. I got 30 mpg last weekend on a drive from Cleveland to Akron. I did have fuel injector cleaner added at the time though because I'm still trying to clean out some bad gas.

If it has the proper approval then use it. The approval dictates the same minimum HT/HS. Those two oils are functionally equivalent including the same winter rating.
