Using old oil and does it have a shelf life?

I'll use it this time and will change it after 5K miles. Hopefully engine is not going to explode.

I have mixed same viscosity in the past, without any problems.

In this case, I would consider a shorter than normal OCI - there are a bunch of additives left in the bottom of the bottles.

Your links show me absolutely nothing and I'm guessing it's Castrol dino. You never mentioned if it was dino and and never mentioned if it was SG, SL.... etc.
If it's dino, I would only run it for 3-4K tops.

Your links show me absolutely nothing and I'm guessing it's Castrol SG dino.
I would only run it for 3-4K tops. Lower mileage numbers what was popular / recommended back then.


Yeah, I can change it after 4K too. Sure.

So some of this stuff did have some serious years on it?
You'd be fine with a 4K run.
You apparently intended this mix just to get rid of some odd quarts laying around and I sometimes mix oils for this purpose as well.
Maybe not best practice, but still makes practical sense.

Just Castrol was old, everything else was from last year. I mixed them, because of practical reasons as mentioned by you.

I would let all the bottles sit upside down a few days and then add them to the engine.
That should remove any worry you have.

I like all the suggestions for 4k....nice and conservative, easily doable with older oils. (I'd be tempted to leave it in and take sample to see if it could go further)

Yeah, I'll monitor oil color and all. Will either replace at 4K mark or 5K and reuse the filter.
