What a sad day for our nation. My thoughts and prayers to the wounded and their families.

This is unprecedented isn't it?

For the killing of a Major General yes. For this type of attack no. When training the Afghanistan National Army (ANA) this was my number one fear we lost 3 NATO instructors in a two week time span at Kabul Military Training Center(KMTC). Sad day indeed.

My thoughts and prayers are with the affected families.

Lifted from the LA Times:

Quote:
Until Tuesday, no officer in the American military of major general rank or higher had been reported killed by hostile action abroad since the Vietnam War. According to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial database, Maj. Gen. John Albert B. Dillard Jr. was killed on May 12, 1970 when his helicopter was shot down. Rear Adm. Rembrandt Cecil Robinson, the Navy’s equivalent of a major general, was killed on May 8, 1972, when his helicopter crashed.

That is what happens when you get involved in the internal affairs of other nations. This guy knew the risks and he shouldn't have been surprised when his time came.

MolaKule, no other country has ever defeated the Afghan people in battle on their own turf, the US is no exception. The only way you could "eradicate" the enemy is to murder every last Afghani, and that is simply not going to happen. Worst of all is the more
killing and meddling we do in the Middle East the more
wrath we encourage on the part of Muslims. The fate of
the Ashkanazi is not, and has never been of national interest to the USA.

George Washington warned against foreign entanglements, the so called leaders of the country have arrogantly ignored this advice and now we all are paying for not listening to one of our most important Founding Fathers.

What's even more unfortunate is that people like you, believing in a higher divine being, are so quick to kill other human beings labeled as "the enemy" that never posed any harm to US nation.
When you play with fire, expect to be burned. Prayers should be sent for US and the "coalition" to get out of all other nations and mind their own business.

Well at least were done with that [censored] hole at the end of the year, cut off all aid and just lob a nuke if they every bother us again. Problem solved.

Except for that disagreeable part that Afghanistan played, when the Taliban was in power, harboring the terrorists that perpetrated 9/11. But I guess we had it coming because we're allies of Israel. Never mind the fact that the US helped Afghans fight off the Russians when they invaded in 1979 and stayed for 6-7 years.

What Yield?
Where would you drop it?
Where might the fall out go?
Do you think there might be repercussions for doing this?

Life ain't that simple.

He's a general, no better or worse than any other service personnel there. Generals typically haven't been killed often since WWII, where they died with some frequency (though it was still uncommon). A high ranking general, Gen. Leslie McNair, was killed by friendly fire in a massive tactical bombing raid close to U.S./Canadian lines just prior to a breakout offensive in Normandy (Operation Cobra) in August of 1944.

Not to disparage McNair, but he is generally considered a stubborn military idiot today by most historians and his death was not particularly vexing...

Why not? Pakistan does. The Taliban are largely a creation of our "allies" in Pakistani intelligence, basically to maintain strong influence in the country. And as far as your simplistic comments about defeating the Afghan people, you're semi-correct. But then, the Afghans have never defeated the Afghans either as the country has been in a constant state of conflict since the Soviet invasion of 1979...

Had we simply put one out in the desert very early on the dramatic effect may have saved a ton of good American men. I really think a deep glass bowl might have been a real game changer if used very early on...

Thankfully simpleton views like this don't actually come to fruition. I get the frustration though. Military bases are risky in the US on home soil. Just takes one or two crazies.

The person you are responding to does not have any sense of reality. This person believes his anti-Semitic rants gains him favors against the extremist that have already declared a jihad against him. That have declared that "his polyglot" will fly the flag of "Muhammad" or every man and male child will die attempting to made this happen. This person believes an fatwā is only optional recommendation that may be followed. This person does not understand the people that have already proclaimed and proven to obtain their goals will literally kill themselves just for the chance to terrorize him. But this person believes this is all some silly game of conspiracy.

antiqueshell you can scream all you want about the fictional "Zionist" the extremists just do not care what you believe and proclaim. If you have any doubts you may go to one of the Stan's or to ISIS and experience this for yourself.

Ignore comments like this. The people making proclamations like this did not witness 17 men die in a firefight with a suicide bomber protecting their fellow Afghan and NATO solders.
