They now list the 5w-20 PDS.

How can the 5w-30 and 10w-30 meet A3 if the HT/HS is only 3.108? They have changed the numbers. I thought it said 3.5 before. No longer with the GF-4?

Actually I'm not sure how it made A3 as GF-3. The stated HTHS then was 3.5 and the ACEA 02 spec is >3.5. That does mean greater than 3.5 doesn't it? For sure at 3.18 it doesn't qualify. At least the way I interpret the spec sheet it doesn't. Maybe I'm missing something. Still a great oil though.

Since most reports on Schaeffer 5w30 and 10w30 have shown this oil to be only 10.0 cst at 100c, all along I never believed it could possibly have a 3.5 HTHS. It's simply not possible, even for a full synthetic, let alone for a blend. I believe 3.0 to 3.1 is the true HTHS this oil has always had.

Their spec sheet always listed the viscosity as being between 10-12 cst, but I've never seen any batches come out anywhere near 12. Perhaps if they did make some batches that thick it would have a 3.5 HTHS, but those batches don't seem to exist.

It's still a darn good oil though! I just wouldn't use it in something which needs a 3.5 HTHS oil or greater. It works fantastic in 95% of the engines out there though.

Hmmm. Always wondered how the Schaeffer's would do in the Beemer albeit at OCI of 5K. Don't know if I would try it or not, since it requires an A3. But.....it does have a 7 quart sump

It may be possible, but not practical or cost effective. How about a blend of 97% Esterex NP395 and 3% SuperSyn 2150.

I too always thought that Schaeffer's PDS was not accurate.

Meeting the A3 requirment usually, not always, requires the oil to be at least 11.5 cSt @100C. Redline is the only company that has lower viscosity oils with high HT/HS probably due to the Ester basestock. Schaeffer's is still a great oil.
