Hi guys, Ive got an update on my 1987 Yamaha FZ700. See this for the original story:
http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/s...ge=1#Post895707

I decided to call it quits on this engine as I have a spare one Ive been itching to put in. It still runs great but I have lost some power and it bugs me, especially as I am a daily freeway commuter. The engine has clocked ~114500 miles, with its original clutch and could go on indefinitely.

So, I took this final oil sample and the results are below. This oil, the old formula Amsoil AMF 10w40 went nearly 18 months and just over 11,000 miles. Incredibly enough, its still good! TBN is getting low, but there is no doubt I could have gone another couple of months.

And all this with one of those worthless K&N filters, with its bajillion tiny holes. (you guys ever take yours out and hold it up to a light? You'll be very disappointed, like I was..)

I love the fact that now I can set a 18 month OCI... and spend those dollars elsewhere...

Oil: Amsoil AMF 10W40
Miles on oil: 11016/(10-2007) 7215 (4-2007) / 5900 (2006)
Time on oil: 1 1/2 year / 1 year / 1 year

Hope all works out well with the other motor and she gives you many more years of trouble free service.

I have 17K on my 2002 zx9r, I have a loooong way to go but hopefully someday I will get the miles up there too. I cant ride mine during the week but sure wish I could. I only ride it if I know I will be going on the highway for at least 30 minutes.

I feel for you. Days that I have to drive my truck, like when it rains, are hard for me. I dont suffer traffic well, it bothers me to no end.

Getting to blast away from work after the day is done on my bike is like being set free from prison... In a car I'd sit and think about things but on the bike its just concentration and skill and strangely enough, I find it relaxing.

Its still fun after 20+ years..

I work on the navy base in Newport, RI sometimes and never know if I will have to shoot over to the base or not. Also hard to carry tools and what not on a bike. Any time I find out I will be working at the warehouse I definitely take advantage of the opportunity to ride the bike. It is in the 40's now in the morning but that doesnt stop me from heading out on the bike. I will take it out of the highway every couple of weeks in the winter and go 65-70 for about 45 minutes, course people look at me and probably think "look at this idiot out on a bike in 40 degree weather but it doesnt bother me. I bundle up pretty good. Course I sweat like crazy sometimes in the heat and humidity of the summers here but I wrecked my 1992 fzr1000 about 4 years ago and know what road rash feels like. Thank goodness for helmets and leather jackets. Now when it is hot/humid, I am just like, :i know what road rash feels like, it hurts so I will take the sweating for the protection.

It is very relaxing especially on your favorite twisty road and you and in the zone. I think I put maybe 3000 miles on it this summer, wish I could put a whole lot more on it that is for sure.

Hey Dash, any possibilty of showing us the insides of the motor and transmission with 114500 miles? I'd love to see the bearings, crank journals, pistons, camshafts, and gears.
