UOA: Castrol 0W-40 5K OCI, 2016 VW Passat VR6 20K miles

Y'all:

The subject line pretty much says it all.

One thing I've noticed about this engine is how black the oil filter element is when I change it. I use Hengst filters. In my BMWs the Hengst filters come out of those cars looking tan. I've never seen an oil filter come out black like on the Passat. It's done it since new (1K, 2.5K, 5K, and 5K OCIs since). The Passat is my first DI engine so I was expecting that to be the reason. Fuel dilution....? But that seems not to be the case.

As an aside, that VR6 is a very nice motor, far exceeding my expectations.

Excellent numbers and beautiful car. This is my favorite body style of the Passat. VW nailed the design. Excellent color choice as well.

The oil filter element on our 2014 Jetta always came out very dark as well. It was nothing I ever thought twice about. Our new Jetta has a traditional spin on filter so I'm not sure how the element looks.

Looks excellent. Aside from Alfa, no V6 has that growl like VR6.

That looks fantastic. Best viscosity retention I have seen for a Castrol 40 grade in the VR6, they typically end up 11.2 to 11.6 cst @100.

The VR6 is simply fantastic, it's a VW legend for a reason.
