Single family home in Leola, SD. Home is a disaster- but fun to see what it would take to "get it right". I suspect this home can't be made right, but interesting find in today's very hot real estate South Dakota market:

With the metal roof I have confidence there isn't water damage. The giant stump up the middle is a curiosity, wonder if it even needs to be there for load-bearing. The small acreage to me indicates it could have been peeled off a larger parcel to settle an estate or whatever. There's an AC condenser and electrical rough-in so it looks like they did just enough for a certificate of occupancy. But what about the kitchen/ bathroom/ well/ septic? Looks like a spec house trying to trap an urbanite looking to retire to the country.

That's a small town in SD. Those metal roofs are very expensive and if the house has good bones I would have to believe it would sell. Homes on some of our small towns can be purchased very reasonably because our main cities are Sioux Falls, Watertown, Yankton, Mitchell, Vermillion, Brookings, Aberdeen and Rapid City. I skipped a few however if you have to commute to go to work the taxes are usually less in some of the off the beaten path smaller cities. Leola has very excellent fishing and hunting very close by.

Looks pretty interesting! I would like to see the engineer stamp for the roof structure, but if that's good, some elbow grease would have that place looking pretty good I would think.
I'm not a huge fan of the looks of 4 side milled logs but if its been put together half properly, its a very solid structure.

I think the biggest problem is the location, stuck on the side of the hwy on a little lot, and the potential for another neighbor 100' away...
That place plunked on a little lake in the middle of some natural acres would be nice!

"Needs a bit of work", but what's there at least "looks solid" (mostly). Problem is the finishing is the most expensive part of a build. And then there's the well, the septic field, the wiring, and the plumbing.

We have a landscaped half acre and it makes for plenty of work.

Metal roofs aren't very expensive.

I just was quoted for a 30x42 "seamless" and it's about $7000

Is it just me but why is there a hole and missing lumber at the bottom of the garage?

It looks solid but.... Is this house like one of those classic cars found in a garage that is mostly rust and hasn't moved in 40 years but is solid in quotes?

The challenge I see with that is modern building code has been updated so lots to tear up and out.

I cannot stand that type of home no matter how fancy or well done. No thanks!!!
