UniFi/Ubiquiti network and protect questions for new ADU

I am adding an ADU to the backyard so there will be the main house and then the ADU which I want to extend my present UniFi network.

Currently main house has Dream Machine Pro as the gateway(has hard drive recording 6 cameras) and Pro 24 PoE switch supplying power to all of the APs and cameras. I plan on running a network or fiber optic cable from the Dream Machine Pro or Pro 24 PoE switch to the new building. On the new ADU end, I want to add another Pro 24 PoE switch to power all the APs and additional cameras that I intend to install. Is this the best way? However, the main house Dream Machine Pro hard drive won't have enough storage for the additional cameras. If I add the Network Video Recorder (UNVR), is this possible and how will the new cameras know that it should record to the UNVR and not to the main house's Dream Machine Pro's hard drive?

Would another option instead trenching from the main house to the ADU to lay cable down to use the UniFi Building Bridge XG (about 25 feet away) to send the network signal?

Few things going on here..
Alot of ways to make this work.

Cable is always better than wireless.. if feasible.
unifi has 2 different bridges you linked to the 6gbit model they have a slower one that is half the cost.

How many devices do you need at this mini house?

are these 4k cams? need more specs and details.

Thanks for answering. Will have about 4 x 4K cameras (perimeter), 2 x 2K cameras (indoors), about 3 APs that are in-wall so can also have direct network wiring for computer or audio hook up. Also 3 non-PoE outlets for TVs. Will also have wifi controlled Lutron lighting and the usual wifi clients (iPad, iPhone, refrigerator, washer/dryer, air purifier, thermostat etc).

If you bury cable, consider a pre-terminated fiber pair (or two) and not copper. You want a lightening buffer. Lightening strikes, even near it and not direct, can take out a lot of gear.

3 ap's? how mini is this house?
Also seems like you need NVR as that may exceed capacity of the udm pro with your other cameras.
With all that going on I don't know that I would want to trust it to a wireless bridge.. even a special purpose one.

Always a good idea with Lightning.. not sure about lightening 😂

Small, just 1000 sq feet, but I figured I could put an in-wall AP which fits at outlet level and provides a "mini" switch of sorts for direct connection to the LAN as well as a PoE port as well. An AP in each of the 2 bedrooms and the main living space downstairs.

That's a great idea. Will need to mention it to the IT installer. When I completely redid my house with a guts renovation in 2020, he installed CAT 5e cable. I was upset he did not use CAT 6 instead but I read up and there was really no great advantage and CAT 6 is harder to work with and less flexible I understand.

AP in each bedroom is a little overkill. i have 3 U7 Pro’s (one soon to be E7) in a ~3000sqft house and can get gigabit downloads anywhere in the house. one little u6 lite covers the garage. i have roughly 70 IOT devices on my network. i’m on a UDM SE, 24 Pro HD POE and 7 cameras. your UDM pro will handle those cameras. just might need to switch to detections only.

bury fiber to the other building and run whichever POE switch you want from unifi that takes SFP+

I agree it is definitely overkill. I have 6 APs in the main house similar in size to yours and 2 floors so pretty compact. Maybe that is working against me in terms of interference. Spectrum is slow and my speeds are half of yours. I had to add a UniFi Beacon to the detached garage so my Teslas could download updates. Since the new ADU will be attached to the garage, I can direct wire it now.

not overkill, a waste. to many AP’s is bad for performance. you need to walk around with Wifiman and adjust broadcast power and channels. that would be your best hope of fixing issues. also, try not to have any meshing built in and disable meshing entirely in the control interface.

I think I can use the Wifiman read the info to adjust power and channels. What do you mean about the meshing? Is it regarding the Beacon? I need it now to get signal to the garage nearer to the Teslas. From the UniFi network portal, how would you disable meshing?

pull one of the AP’s out of the room’s and place it in the garage. under radios disable meshing

Agree. All my cat5 runs through the attic (home on a slab) which makes good antennas for EMP. After three near by lightning strikes took out tv, computers, switch and surround sound I went with wifi on everything.

BTW, our home is 1300 square feet, AP is located in the center of the home and is set to low power. No problems hitting the AP.

The UNVR allows for more cameras and up to 4 hard drives. You can have RAID 1 I believe.

I would bury fiber. Pre-terminated is not very expensive. Run conduit and pull fiber.
