It's hard to see from the one pic but the gap between both sides of the chain looks pretty close together. Maybe it's just the angle. If you are doing that low of miles I would leave it until you hear it knocking. More than enough time to tend to it at that point. We did one chain where the engine sounded like it had no chain guides at all and was clanging pretty bad and it caused no damage at that point.
 
That is one of the gutsiest engines Toyota ever made. I remember back on my 96 Tacoma, everyone wanted the V6 so I got a good deal on the 2.7. It did everything I asked of it.
