Two of TV's biggest disappointments

It's Sunday night and I'm watching Return of King and I'm just going to say it...

The Rings of Power and House of Dragons both suck. They're both boring and they both lack ANY of the magic that the original series possessed.

House of Dragons started slow, but so did Game of Thrones. I think Matt Smith is a very good actor, but he as Daemon Targaryen just doesn't work, imo. I'm not too disappointed in the show because I didn't expect much from it anyway. I certainly wouldn't call it a bad show.

Now, Rings of Power, with a billion-dollar budget and incredible lore that has stood the test of time, you'd think that would be great. Or at least good. But it's actually worse than mediocre.

It's funny that Rings of Power has been criticized from the start for gender and race swapping, and from the start the cast and producers often made the swapping the most important thing they cared about, but now that the show is doing poorly the cast and producers and media are putting the blame on the "bigoted" criticizers,

even though I've seen plenty of the loudest criticizers praise the acting and scenes of the black dwarf lady as being one of the only decent parts of the show, while putting most of the blame on the casting and behavior-changing of the main character Galadriel. She wasn't race or gender swapped but is written very different from the books, and written poorly and is an unlikeable character.

Rings of Power is similar to the new She-Hulk show, (and numerous other examples). The creators and actors basically hate the fans. And they'll tell certain demographics of would-be fans "this isn't for you." And then when those people don't watch and the show does poorly, they get told they are the problem for not watching.

I'm a big LOTR fan since childhood and will watch Rings of Power. But for me it's more like a documentary than a drama - filling in backstory details for the main trilogy and The Hobbit. I don't expect it to be particularly fun to watch. There's a reason the Silmarillion doesn't get much attention, it's pretty boring.
No comment on House of the Dragon; I stopped watching GOT pretty quickly; it seemed to rely on shock and porn more than storytelling. But then I couldn't stand Sopranos either (tried it twice even), and for the same reasons.

I just got a battery shipped from Amazon for my Polaris 500 HO and it came in a box with Rings of Power
saying on it. I thought that was a logo from the battery company.. I didn't know it was a movie.
Oh well, I guess I don't watch or follow that stuff.

BROAD LITMUS TEST for TV & MOVIES:
NOTE: Disagreement either way doesn't mean anyone is a bad person.

The more "make-up/prosthetics OR costume saturated" a production is, the lousier it'll be.

Me? I can't even focus attention on the promos for those shows.

TV is a disappointment

Tv is just plain offensive.

If my wife didn’t binge watch SVU, Chicago Fire, and all the rest of these dopey cops and robbers shows I would drag my TV out to the curb. What a waste of my hard earned money.

If you never saw the old ROME HBO series from early Y2K that is stunningly good.

It would be a good mid-winter watch.

Up there with Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.

Magic of the originals eh?
Ralph Bakshi's masterful animated Lord of the Rings was more true to Tolkien than that over hyped, dank and inadequate movie that appeared more middle ages Britain than Middle Earth.

p.s.: Funny thing, I just recalled I took a Fantasy Literature class and wrote a paper and did a presentation on this classic Trilogy ... almost 50 years ago !
