I just got my Chev Lumin V6 3.1L tuned up at 122K, with new plugs and wires. Not the extened life or platinums, just regular plugs/wires.
They are good for 50k. My question is: If I'm only putting 5k/yr on the car, is it ok to wait 50k miles before replacing the plugs and wires again? I ask because at this rate, it will take me 7-8 years or more to get 50k miles on the car.

I'd say yes based on my personal assumption unused plugs shouldn't wear out.

The rubber insulation of the wires may degrade over time but I suspect they'll be fine too in 8yrs. You can always check the resistance to see if they are in spec and visibly for cracks etc.

I still have the original plug wires on my '84 Accord and '89 Volvo.

When I bought my 1988 Mustang GT in 2002 it still had the original plug wires on it. I could tell since they said "1988" on them (Ford prints the year on the OE sparkplug wires).

Wow....I can't beleive wires lasted that long for you, njc. I've never heard of them lasting that long.. I assume your car is garaged as well?
