I've heard so many good things about Motorcraft Semi Synthetic 5w-30 motor oil that I decided to use it in my Aztec. I noticed that the back of the bottles only gave Ford new specs but, nothing on GM. Are GM motor oil specs higher in respect to Fords motor oil specs? What are your opinions on my experiment of a Ford labeled product being used in a GM vehicle? I hope that a Ford endorsed product is better than their truck performance - Power Stroke engines in our work trucks are constant problems. We have experienced cracked blocks, coolant leaks etc... On the other hand the Chevy Duramax and Dodge Cummins engines in all other trucks have been very much problem free. I also noticed that the Power Strokes have the worst get up and go of all the trucks out of all three mentioned. Why is this? Sorry for getting off subject.

To put put it an additional way - if the bottle is labled with "SM" and "GL-4" motor oil performance gradings (which, themselves, were established by committees composed of lube industry and auto manufacturers' representatives to work out a commonality that would save consumers the hassle of wading through the auto manufacturers' specification gibberish), then the contents automatically meet all domestic and Asian auto manufacturers' current, and exceeds all above auto manufacturers' previous, specifications for acceptable 5W-30 petroleum-based motor oils. Can you buy a better 5W-30 motor oil than the Motorcraft? Of course you can. (But not at or close to its price and still have a verified "synthetic-blend"! I think I see one reason that WalMart is discontinuing Motorcraft oil. This stuff sells for less than they can market their own synthetic blend and may actually be better to boot.)

Ray H, at least where I live Wal-Mart is not planning on dropping either Motorcraft Oil or Filters. After discussion with local Managers it appears that if you have a problem it is most likely because of a decision by your local manager.

I have a 5.3L Tahoe with 12,000 miles on it and I plan to use MC 5W-30 as soon as I deplete my Castrol GTX. It will probably be March before I get a chance to use it, so please provide some feedback to how your engine likes it. It sounds like a great value and for $1.50 / qt you can change it at 3,000-4,000 miles and still not spend a lot of $$. Does anyone else use the MC in their GM engine? Any thoughts?

My in-laws have a 1999 5.4L Navigator that runs great on the MC 5W-30...but I haven't seen anyone post about using it in a GM engie.

Good luck!!

Ford seems intent on marketing Motorcraft products specifically to Ford owners, which is IMO very dumb. Ford's market share continues to shrink. Try looking up non-Ford applications for Motorcraft filters some time. The information is almost impossible to find.

Anyway, Motorcraft oil will be fine in your GM vehicle. Motorcraft oils seems to be exactly the same stuff as ConocoPhillips also markets under the Union76, Phillips66, Conoco & Kendall brands.
