On my dipstick-less trans I did an exchange. I dropped the pan, cleaned it out, reinstalled, added about the right amount. Then I pulled a line and attempted to get one quart out, fill in one quart. Repeat.

I recommend having a helper, as I wound up with ATF all over the place. Also the return line may need to be plugged up.

Also read up on how to check fluid level--odds are the trans has to be at a specific temp, which likely requires a scan tool, or at least an IR thermometer.

yeah i saw that. what a ridiculous procedure..

There are a lot of pictorial procedure in the Lexus and Toyotanation forums also Youtube.

You may want to read and watch them a few times to minimize the spillage.

If you measure the amount going out and put the same amount in, it should be close. Then you can heat up the engine by driving it around a little till it is up to temp. If you feel that the trans does not shift smoothly/slow when you are backing out of a driveway, then you need to add a little more fluid.

Note: Hot transmission fluid expands, so the fresh fluid your adding will have less volume. In a dipstickless situation, it seems best to extract cool transmission fluid so as to reduce the likelihood of overfilling. Apples to apples.
