I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma i need to change the transfer case fluid on. I bought a gallon of Lucas Heavy Duty 80W-90 Gear Oil to do front and rear diffs and the transfer case. But then i started wondering if the Lucas gear oil was compatible with the brass syncros in the transfer case. I know GL-5 fluid eats syncros and you need to run GL-4 in a syncronised transmission. The Lucas ear oil says "Exceeds Service Level API GL-4, API GL-5, API MT-1" So does this mean i can run this fluid in the Toyota transfer case without harming the syncros?

That gear Lube is fine, but a gallon isn't going to do both differentials and the transfer case. You're likely going to need a couple more quarts.

This is not pre-2000 GL5.
Besides the claimed MT1 ,J2360 MIL2105E is speced for synchros protection .
Hence this modern day GL5 is safe for your synchros .

A 75W90 GL-4 was originally specified so I would select from one of these fluids:

MTLs in the 14-15 cSt (SAE 75W90) range would be:

Amsoil MTG
Redline MT-90
Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90
Castrol Syntrans Transaxle 75w-90
Ford XT-75W90-QGT
Ford MOTORCRAFT® Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid XT-M5-QS
ACDelco 10-4059 GL-4 75W-90 Manual Transmission Fluid
RAVENOL TSG SAE 75W-90
LiquiMoly 75W-90 GL4
Pennzoil 75W90 GL-4
