My '94 V-6 Toyota T100 truck uses, according to the manual, 5-30 below 60 degrees F ambient, 10w30 above. After reading MANY of these postings, I need to ask: considering the advances in oil chemistry, isn't 5w30 good for year round use? I have about 100K, so pure synthetic is out, but 50/50 is doable. Advice, please?

I would try M1 5-30 if you were to try to stick with 5-30 year round. I don't see any issues running synthetics in that motor. You can try it if you don't like it switch back to dino. If you go the dino route you should be able to stick with 10-30 year round.

You may be better using the 10-30 synthetic instead of 5-30. The v6 is hard on the oil.

My kid has an '87 V-6 T-100. Hot oil pressure has always been on the low side. She is in San Diego, so it gets 15W-40 dino.

I would not use 5W-30 unless you need it for cold weather starting.

The truck is normally operated between Downtown and La Jolla. 15W-40 is hardly molasses in a non-arctic climate. 15W is rated for cold cranking down to +4F. Oil pressure with the engine warmed up was right on the line with 10W-30, so I got nervous, even though Toyota said it was "normal". That was almost 100,000 miles ago.
