Toyota is recalling 907,000 vehicles, mostly Corolla models, around the world for faulty air bags and another 385,000 Lexus IS luxury cars for defective wipers.

Toyota Motor Corp. spokesman Naoto Fuse said Wednesday there have been no accidents or injuries related to either of those defects, but the Japanese automaker received 46 reports of problems involving the air bags from North America, and one from Japan.

There were 25 reports of problems related to the windshield wipers.

Being recalled for air bags that can improperly inflate are 752,000 Corolla and Corolla Matrix cars in the U.S. as well as thousands of similar vehicles in Japan, Mexico and Canada, manufactured between December 2001 and May 2004.

The problem windshield wipers can get stuck if there is heavy snowfall, according to Toyota.

Toyota Recall

As is mine. Been in some serious snow storms so I know the wipers are good to go. (or maybe its the Lexus with the wiper problems?)

Don't know about the airbags as I've never used them.

46 out of over a million and 23 for 385k units?

Oh boy here we go again!

Most of the car makers today do a good job of recalling for even minor problems. Good for Toyota.

I was wondering about this as we have a 2004 Vibe.

Toyota has got to have had more recalls than any other automaker in history. Consumers=beta testers..I know all companies do it but come on. This is not a wise crack at Toyota but to ALL goods manufactures.. TEST YOUR PRODUCTS before you release them. Point in case 6L PSD.. Billions of $$$$$$$ in claims. Really, Ford should have done WAY more testing and addressed the issues before release..
Disclaimer: mine has been great, but that was the best example I could come up with quickly.

I agree. 25 known issues so they are recalling a million cars. Good for them.

International dropped the ball with the 6.0 psd,not ford but they were still a nightmare. 4 of my oil rigger friends have jacked up 6.0 psd's and every one of them had issues.
Obviously Toyota tested their systems,25 known problem vehicles of a million, like really, that's minutiae. It would cost them less to leave the vehicles as is and just pay the lawsuits as they arise. Good on them for making it right.

I'm reminded of how the Concorde went from the safest airplane to the most unsafe--and with one accident.

When you sell the most, it could be possible to have the lowest rate of recalls and still have the most recalls in number. In Toyota's case, it's a tight race at the top, so I'd be curious how it matches against GM and Ford (I know VW is the other top contender, but I already know that comparasion!).

The international "VT 365" was decent.. not great..but decent.. it was Ford's "hotrod" programing that added to the issues

Isnt there some standard threshold beyond which action is necessary?

I think they want you back in the dealership to upsell a new 2013.They want to be the king of all,so that means getting people out of the older ones and into new ones. They last forever you know....how else would they sell new ones to current owners?

Also don't forget all the "new" emissions junk that they had to put on it.

The EGR cooler failures, coupled with poor maintenance (injector failures) turned the engine into a nightmare. And of course the weaker early head studs, though I believe the extent of that problem was directly related to the EGR cooler issue, causing boiling coolant, poor coolant flow and hot spots.

While Ford's "hopped up" programming certainly increased the occurence of EGR cooler failures, they DID happen on the VT365 in International trim.

While Ford's "quiet injector" programming increased the occurence of injector failures, they DID happen on the VT365 in International trim.

While Ford's "hopped up" programming likely contributed to earlier head gasket/stud failure, it still happened on the VT365 in International trim.

The difference is that Ford's modifications seemed to increase the frequency of these failures. But they still happened on the International-trim model as well, indicating that the problems weren't Ford's fault, simply that their use of the engine with in-house software and higher power output resulted in the issues occurring earlier, and more frequently.

Yes, if it is safety related.

Overk1ll,
Yes, I said "decent" not perfect. lol... look at Dodge diesel automatics...they have been marginal for decades IE 89'..People still seem to have luck with them...look at Honda AT's They are total scrap..ask my stepmom, she has a minivan.. I lost count on the repairs that HONDA has has done..People still defend the Later, poorer quality Hondas that aren't NEARLY as good quality of the 90's Hondas... Point. All Manufactures have failures.. some have manny failures. Products with many failures needed to me re-evaluated.

After my buddy Jon (slammds15 on here) deleted his EGR, put new injectors in it and had his branch tube adapter replaced, as well as a new IDM installed, the truck was incredibly reliable. And PULL!!! He had a tuner on it of course, LOL!
