I don't buy the boring stereotype - people buy these cars when their previous car maker sold them cars short on reliablity.

I had two 'US' trucks before my 05 Corolla, a 91 S-10 and a 95 Dakota. Both made it to 150,000+ with minimal maintainance, the S-10 needed an ignition module around 120,000 (a guy pulled up beside me at the mart I was at and took one look at the hood up and correctly identified the failed part heh), the Dakota needed a water pump around the same time. Prob didn't hurt both were automatic and had regular M1 changes around 7,500 miles.

If my Corolla needs ANYTHING before 150,000, I'm going to be one irked 'Ameleecan'.

I absolutely purchased it because I believed it to be built better than other equipment...that said, I wouldn't have purchased it if I didn't find it pleasant to look at as well.

Not sure about boring, but in my area most camry and corolla drivers don't know how to drive and almost hit me all the time.

I drive a corolla btw, because the dealership is in walking distance and had a sale of $12888 when I needed a car (the first car, walked to the dealer) and knew nothing about it back then.

Most people buy them because of perception. Many import owners have never owned a domestic vehicle.

Toyota has also had their fair share of reliability issues. They have had sludge and head gasket problems. IIRC, Motor Trend or Car & Driver was doing a long term test with a Camry and it blew a head gasket at 20K miles.

Only once has a domestic vehicle left me stranded. It was years ago when my parents decided they did not really need to change the timing belt on our '86 Ranger when Ford said to in the manual. 25K miles after it was susposed to have been changed, it broke. The truck was back on the road later that day.

I see a LOT more old people driving slowly in Camrys than Accords.

Most of the Accord owners I see haven't even reached middle age yet:)

The Corolla/Camry drivers always leave a good 10-20 car lengths ahead of them, and when I finally get around them...I see someone who's 10 & 2 on the wheel and looks about as exciting as a doorknob.

Well, what do you know? 7th grade study hall is alive & well!

You see more and more Camrys joining the Taurus in rental car fleets lately. Dependable, comfortable on long trips, economical and they don't really encourage spirited driving.

Bryancfshr, ask BMW, Audi and Mercedes sedan owners if they think their cars are boring.

ALL sedans are not boring. That said "I" think most Toyota, Honda and Nissan sedans are a bit boring.

Again, My daughter's 4-runner Truck is not boring, actually very nice and practical.

Yup, I drive a Corolla and the chicks just do not dig this car (complete with the dented hood and moldy smelling A/C). Am I boring? Yup. Over 4,000 posts here

Can I afford a new car? Yup. But I'm just too mush of a cheap frugal *******!

I think next up will be some kind of Civic Hybrid station wagon.

I used to have 2 fairly fast cars; modded turbo Talon and a Grand Am GT. I spent more time than there is in an the day monkeying with my Talon and the Grand Am: lets just say I don't like GM. So now, it truely is nice having a car that you can just step out to knowing it will fire up every time.

The only person I've ever personally known to have fallen asleep while driving did so in a Toyota Corolla.

I wonder if anyone has done a study on what vehicles are most likely to be involved in accidents where the driver fell asleep?

My Tacoma is anything but boring. It's very useful, practical and reliable. The fastest 0-60 time of any mid-size truck doesn't hurt either.

There is a lot of talk about personality in a car. Personality isn't manufactured. Saying a car has "personality" is like saying a house has "character".

Neither are necessarily a compliment.

Maybe the Corolla or the Camry isn't the most exciting car you've ever seen but that's not who it's marketed toward.

I don't think a Civic, Stratus or Malibu are very exciting either. I know drivers of each and they are all about as exciting as watching water boil or paint dry.

A fun car is one that I can drive, not one that spends every other month in the shop.

Nice try!
I thought people fall asleep when they are tired (insomia, sleep apnea, shift workers) and not bored.
It happend to my wife once, she worked night shift. For the records, she was driving a mazda, so much for the zoom-zoom factor, LOL.

Well said.
I recently bought V6 RAV4. 0-60 mph in 6.5 sec or so. I usually overeccellerate riced hondas with **** exhausts while I pull my boat at the same time.
Can't call it a boring car.
As for the owner, I'm probably boring, comes with the BITOG geek category I guess.
Other car forum consider BITOG members as propeller cap crowd. So much for stereotyping, LOL!
