Toyota owners "boring"?

I guess it would be more helpful if we stated in our responses which Toyota models we consider boring. I've only driven Corolla and Camry, but it's probably not fair to put something like the MR2 in the same bag of 'boring'.

Toyota owners "boring"?

Possibly ..but many of their cars surely are

The old Supra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and MR2 certainly aren't boring. The rest of the line, well...

Being a long time Toyota owner I should have responded sooner, but the thread just wasn't exciting enough.

Hondas are boring, too. Luckily there is an ample supply of f@rt cans, spinning rims, and large tail spoilers available to rectify that problem. Sadly, these parts are not as widely available for Toyota.

kanling ...Toyota already endured this evolution. Honda just beat them to the punch of getting it to market. At one time, in Reading, PA (late 80's-early 90's)..the Toyota Corrolla was the neo-low rider of choice for "bling" in that urban metropolitan region.

Next thing you know ...Fast & Furious

How can you call a corolla boring?

It has a dealer installed spoiler option.

Nothing with a spoiler option is boring.

This kind of reminds me of a post I read on BITOG a few weeks ago where at least two people referred to a civic as "sporty". I will never understand how ill handling, gutless econoboxes strike certain people as "sporty".

hahahaha, all too true!!!

Alas, many will not see the light.

I make no claims that my diesels, or even my saab, which has a torque curve so fat it could be mistaken for a diesel engine, are sports cars, sporty, etc. They do what they need to do with low lifecycle cost and good longevity. Exactly the same as a corolla, civic, accord, camry, corolla, sentra, altima, etc.

Theyre all the same... 120 hp MB diesel or 268hp new v6 camry.

Im just still amazed to read of the QC issues with accords!!!

You should have gotten the 2.3L with a 5-speed, then it would be just as quick as your Frontier!

I have a '98 Pathfinder (3.3L, 168hp, 5spd) that is a dog when trying to get into traffic. That thing could definitely use your 4.0L! I give her all she's got and I occasionally don't get up to speed in time to prevent the guy behind from having a good following distance without letting off the gas. The Mazda3 always gets me up to speed in time though, and when I look in the mirror after getting to speed, I almost always realize that I didn't need to accelerate anywhere near as quickly as I did. The trip from 5000 to 7000 rpm is too fun not to take though!

I love it when I see a guy in a dopey riced civic take off WFO from a light. His car sounds like it is going to redline in every gear and the old coot in a grand marquis slowly pulls away from him.

True 4WD like the earlier diesel G Wagens were or TLC or Nissan Patrol were never meant to be exciting, just functional and true off road vehicles with diff locks etc. today all we have is dressed up pansies posing to be 4WD and marketed to people who would barely take these vehicles off road.

I guess it all depends where you live. In my neck of the woods traffic is not that intense whatsoever.

However get into those hills on two lane roads when I go skiing and a slow truck followed by a few cars without the desire or likely power to pass safely you become thankful for extra power. This is only offered by a powerful V6 or in my case a 250HP/250ft-lb turbo 4 cylinder that can effortlessly and safely pass a truck and a car or two at once within 5-10 MPH of the speed limit instantly loaded with 4 passengers and ski gear for all. My ski buddies are simply amazed when there backs are pressed in a fully loaded family wagon. My day to day driving is very docile.

Im totally out of control???!? look at what youre writing. Who attacked who for claiming that carmakers should invest more money into making better, more efficient, safer, higher quality 4 cylinder cars, as opposed to bigger and more v6s?

You obviously have a stick up your @$$ that you cant stand anyone that has another opinion. I have my opinion on what engneering dollars should be spent on. You cant stand it if someone doesnt agree with you, and suggest that more money be put into (IMO) overpowered v6 engines.

Note that I never said that you shouldnt be able to buy a v6, that your decision of what to buy was wrong or improper. Nope, all I said was that I did not see thenecessity of buying a v6 car, and would like better engineering in other fundamental departments of the midsized car segment.

And somehow thats terrible. OK, you think what you want, and you keep thinking that I block up the highways and have trails of 50 cars behind me on the road. Think what you like - you made the most wonderful decision ever, and everyone that cant do 0-60 in less than 6.5 seconds should be kicked off the roads, because theyre unsafe - Im unsafe - I dont know how to drive - I should loose my license, because I dont merge as fast as youbecause my car has less power. OK? Happy? Im wrong, youre right. All cars should have v6 engines at a minimum - lets make that rule today! Ill call my congressman right away!

Oh yeah, and heavy trucks are too slow, lets ban them too.

I believe YOU started the attacking with "I do find it ridiculous to try to infuse 'excitement' into vehicles that really shouldnt be pushed, sich as family sedans and SUVs - for the sake of making people feel good when driving around in a family vehicle. "

In other words, those of us who buy high HP 4-door cars are wrong, stupid and rediculous. What I've said has been in self defense, since you seem convinced that an antiquated, slow 4-door sedan is the only type of sedan there should be. You started it by calling me rediculous, so if you can't handle the rebuttle, don't start the argument.

Ridilin is a good thing.

Y'all have a nice weekend. I'm headed to US 75 for some good old slug Merceded hunting.
