Toyota Dealer Recommends Oil Flush???

Look at all the couch specialists giving advices without seeing the car.

So you're suggesting that the dealer pulled the valve cover to have a little look-see before suggesting the OP have an engine flush?

Or, is it more likely that an engine flush is that dealer's blanket suggestion on anything beyond some certain mileage?

Does the toyota dealership push BG products?

I HATED stocking this crap when I worked at dealer. They carried everything they sold, and the prices were insane. They would use their line of fluids too which was stupid because we had genuine stuff as well.

We had techs that refused to use the BG machine for transmission flushes as well. That was always fun.

When asked about the latter, they said they would change the oil, run a motor flush, then change the oil again. Is this a normal service for a Toyota at 200K, or is someone trying to pull a fast one?

At 200,000 miles I would do what was recommended by the dealer. Contrary to some of the posts here, an engine flush can be beneficial to a motor such as yours that lived on extended OCI’s.

Heck I did a flush with Liqui Moly that resulted in cleaner oil changes and a smoother running engine. I’m a 3,000 mile oil change guy and proud of it.

Very few dealer service centers and repair shops are out to rip customers off. It is the rare few that BITOG members are the most vocal about. Crooked shops don’t last long as there is so much competition to please the customer.

Congratulations on reaching 200k on your vehicle!

The only way I would ever perform an oil flush on a Prius (I've owned 5 over a span of 17 years), is if it was neglected. They are incredibly easy on motor oil for the most part. Their redline is limited by programming and the engines temperature is very well regulated and engineered. I would be more inclined not to do a motor flush on any engine with 200k to be honest.
