Did the first half of my valve cover gasket change. I bought the car with 140,000 miles on it. Now has 210,000 miles. I have run only Syn oil in it and decent filters. Oil changes were usually around 5,000 miles with a few around 7500. The VVT filter in pic was totally clean. Enjoy!

Looks like your regimen may have loosened some of the previous owner's varnish on the camshaft phaser?

Thanks for the pics.

Thanks for posting! Cool beans! Good buy for you! Keep it going.

Thanks for the photos. Please share what brand oil and viscosity you were using.

Seems unusually crusty. This is my FIL's at 132K:

It received conventional 5W30 every 5K from 0-60K, then whatever 5W30 synthetic that is on sale from 60-132K, but at the same 5K interval.

Looks awesome

The OP did buy the car with 140K, so it looks like the previous owner is to blame for how the Valvetrain looks. It probably got some cheap oil before the OP bought it.

It has 210,000 miles on it, probably shouldn’t expect it to look flawless but it does seem a little dirty to me compared to other 2GRFE’s I’ve seen. Usually they’re pretty clean. Nothing to worry about but when you remove a valve cover you’re kind of hoping to see it spotless (as a car owner), and when it is isn’t...it’s a let down. At least that’s the way I felt when I pulled the valve cover off our Honda CRV to adjust the valves...looked a lot like this, and I was a little ticked about it. 🤣🤣 But I got over it real quick knowing I owned an extremely reliable car.

Thanks. Unfortunately it blew a valve spring, so it required repair.
How was that to do? Did you have to remove the engine from the bottom? I know the timing cover on these things are a bear. But I do love the 2GRFE engine, they seem very easy on oil. And I’ve had a few valve covers off on these things and they usually are spotless.

There are a couple of long threads about the repair here, search his posts.
