This is my second UOA. The first one http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...rue#Post2467679 indicated a problem with air filtration. Although I checked the intake system I could not find a leak. The air filter was replaced prior to the last oil change. My driving is typically 90% highway, 10% city. We had a mild winter in Calgary – I believe the coldest day I drove was -25C for this interval. I don’t typically commute in my car so it doesn’t see a lot of stop-and-go traffic.
Ramatek has done both analyses.
I use a magnetic oil drain plug. When I changed the oil the magnet was fairly clean; the magnet was noticeably dirtier the previous oil change when the iron levels were higher so there seems to be come correlation.
I’ve noticed on VOAs for Toyota 0w-20 the silicon is typically 5-8 ppm which tends to make the silicon in the UOA look a bit less bad (but not good). I suspect my next UOA should show slightly lower iron due to incomplete removal of oil during an oil change.
I searched BITOG and did not see any other UOAs on this motor (2AR-FE). Maybe the most recent oil change iron levels are normal for this engine.
Oil fill is more Toyota 0w-20 SM. I have enough for 2 more changes then will switch to the Toyota 0w-20 flavour du jour unless there becomes another reliable source for 0w-20 in Canada.
