I just bought a new toyota tundra with the 4.7L The manual says to run 5w30. But I will be towing a pop-up camper that weighs 3000# this summer.I'am going to run mobil-1 oil but what weight should I run? Or would the 5w30 be fine for towing and all year round protection? Thanks for you time and help!!!!! PW

I tow a 2,000 lb boat with my toy 4X4 PU 2.4, was using 15W-50, changed last yr to 0W-40 M1 for better mpg and got it, then this week I changed to the new M1 Truck/SUV 5W-40. I notice the 5W-40 makes the engine quite a bit quieter. Probaby gonna stick with the Truck/SUV oil for good.

I would use either 10W-30 or the Mobil-1 "SUV/Truck" (Delvac-1) 5W-40. Mobil-1 5W-30 is a little on the thin side to begin with and I would be concerned about it breaking down under those loads. John

The M1 synthetic will hold up better than a 5w30 dino oil. If the owner's manual allows for 10w30 in warmer weather, I would use M1 10w30, other wise use the 5w30 and it will be fine.

3000# isn't much. I would go with a 10w30 in the summer...even when not towing.

My sister tows 6000-7000 lbs weekly with her Tundra (horses). She uses dino or a blend in 5W30 with good luck.

I know that this is going to be stupid question for you guys but what is Delvac-1?

It's the commercial-fleet, diesel-rated Mobil synthetic engine oil. Some of us believe that the new M1 5W-40 T&SUV oil is merely relabeled D1; some don't. In either event, it's fine engine oil. I'd run 5W-30 (or 0W-40) in your winters and 10W-40 in summer, especially if you'll be towing and especially if your Toy-truck does NOT have a good engine-oil cooler.
