Tow truck damage done to a 9 year old Pilot?

My wife’s pilot was towed away yesterday while parked front facing, and other cars in front and to the sides. So the only way to pull the car was from the rear. Question is, do they just drag the car out? It’s FWD and parking brake wasn’t engaged. How to check if there was any damage done to the transmission by dragging it out (if it was)?

Scuff marks on the tires or pavement?
Careful inspection of the parking pawl?

If a vehicle was dragged 20 feet in a non-jerky manner, there might not be any damage.
I was on the plane while it happened, so no clue if the were any scuff marks on the pavement. How does one inspect a parking pawl?

unwillingly. She was with the kids in park and came back to an empty parking spot
I would be all kinds of mad. newer vehicle under warranty or older? if its under warranty take it to Honda have them inspect the transmission just don't let em know it was towed.

By accessing a clear view of both the pawl and the rotating element against which it locks.
Some disassembly would be required.

It would be helpful to the service writer if you had a symptom to report.
The best news would be if there was no symptom.
There could be no damage at all. (fingers crossed)

I’ve driven the car this morning and it drives fine. Parking pawl seems to be holding the car on the incline as designed…not sure what else I can do

With 90K miles if you're not looking to take things apart or pay some to take things apart to check for "possible" problems, I'd drive it. Especially if it's driving OK. I wouldn't be a happy camper but, I seriously doubt a tow company is going to pay for something that's broken anyway. You'd have to prove they broke it and with 90K miles you'd probably come up short anyway.

I’m not a happy camper indeed. And 320$ lighter. Thank you for your input

I would imagine it looked something like this:

I've seen other videos where it's been only one truck on duty and they will pull the car out far enough to be able to go around and lift from the front.

They probably dragged it which is unlikely to damage the vehicle if done slowly. The higher end tow services would use wheel dollies to extract the Honda.

First - does it hold in park (pawl damage?)
Second- does the engine and transmission mounts seem firm ((broken mounts if snatched?)
Third- does it have vibrations that weren’t there before (front tires flat spotted?)

Side story. Saw a tow truck driver get into a vehicle with the RF suspension obliterated.

The wheel was still connected but barely hanging on the pushed in strut and most likely dislodged lower control arm.

The engine started and the guy placed it into reverse, power braking it it out of a body shop's tow yard, it wasn't pretty and he had to really rev it, but it saved some tight maneuvering of the tow truck.

From my experience, most tow truck drivers don't care about vehicles. I've seen them dump oil soaked kitty litter (accident cleanup) onto drivers seats. The nicer ones put it in the foot well. Ideally they put it in a bucket or garbage bag. What can you do, many of these guys are nuts IMHO.

It does hold in park. I haven’t noticed any new vibration sensation when idling or revving (which I would imagine be present if mounts are affected). Drove it for around 10 miles (low and highway speeds), and haven’t noticed any vibrations either. Time will tell, i suppose….
