Torque Converter Fluid Only?

Hi, My '99 E150/4.2L just reached 60K,and I was thinking of just replacing the Torque Converter fluid(easy deal).The pan/filter was done at 25K along with the TC.The Mercon-V still looks good,and it shifts fine.Is it worth it or not?I'm not found of the power flush routine. Thanks.

I would drain the torque converter, as well as the pan, and replace the filter, as it's been about 45,000 miles since your last service. Sounds like a good plan whether you replace only the torque converter, or both.

The fluid in the converter will end up in the pan. The fluid in the pan will end up in the converter. It's probably easier to drain the pan if you have a drain plug there. Either way, as long as you change the oil. I just drain whats in the pan about every 3rd oil change or so. Fluid always looks good, never had a trans fail due to fluid related issues.

Just so you know the fluid in the transmission is shared witht he entire transmission. THeir is no seperate fluid for the TC versus the rest of the transmsission. So the easiet way to change fluid is to simply drop the pan and refill unless you have a drain plug. Now if your TC has a drain plug tht is great since you can then drain it as well and get a lot more fluid out then a simple pan drop. Just make sure to refill the TC with some fluid so it is not dry when you start it up!!! Not that many TC's have drain plugs and even fewer domestic Automatic pans have plugs!

Hi & Thanks all.At my age(99),just thought I'd not go for another atx pan drop.If,I jack up the van's rear wheels,will it drain out more fluid by the TC drain plug? I might put off the big pan drop til next year,when the van hits 70K,and I hit 100!
