Helped a friend out today replacing the belts on his 30 in Toro rider.

The drive belt was ordered and delivered from Toro -------------------but the drive belt was the wrong length (41.77 in needed ) 44 in+ was sent, another belt was sourced locally, 42in works perfectly,

Deck belt was also changed.

This machine is believed to be a 1982 Mfg. date and runs great.

So , a happy friend and another old machine back in service.

When I worked part time at a big box auto parts store, people would frequently come in during mowing season, especially on weekends with a worn out broken/shredded lawn equipment belt (could not even get a part number on most of them) and expect us to have it in inventory. Half the time , they did not even know what the model number was of their particular machine, usually just the brand. We carried a very limited supply of V belts that were suitable as replacements for some lawn equipment.

things could get worse. A couple of small engine shops have closed in the last two years.
Also have heard of several cases where the after market belts don't last near as long as the factory items.

My 2¢

I had one of those old "whirlwinds" buying it in the 70's. I remember replacing many belts, tie rods, batteries and a rusted out mower deck. It was a decent rider mower and served me well many years. The engine finally wore out and I scrapped it about 15 years ago.
