Tonight's KIPAC Astronomy Lecture at Stanford

What did I learn? I'm super grateful for the electromagnetic field surrounding the earth. The magnetosphere shields us from harmful solar radiation and charged particles from the sun,

The lecture concepts (solar activity) were all new to me. The speaker's volume was a little low and she was perhaps a little nervous? She was actually more relaxed (and better) with the follow up questions at the end of her lecture. The questions were stunning; a student a row down from us was taking copious notes and asked a very intelligent question; she spoke very well. Kinda shook my head and listened...

I love the KIPAC series. Highly recommended. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity so close to home. Both Stanford and Berkeley have so much to offer to the public. Education for life.

KIPAC lectures are posted to Youtube. Solar Maximum. Invest an hour, if you are interested.

Extra credit: The charts offer incredible insight as the moderators answer real-time questions.
For example: Astronauts have higher risk of cancer due to exposure to high energy particles from the Sun that nuclear scientists on Earth.
