i checked my oil level in my 91 accord before i drove it today and it was pretty low...its been at least 2 weeks with this oil and i already used half a quart of it? i never seen this much oil burned before, maybe very little but nothing compared to this.

though i been driving with high revvs latley going back and forth on the freeway. wiht mobil drive clean and i saw no oil depletion.

is it just this oil isnt liking my car or something?? ill add more oil and check again time to time.

im using chevron supreme 10w30 in my 2.2l accord...3.9QTS

previously was mobil drive clean.

thanks.

I doubt it. Did it use any before? Are you sure you added the correct amount to begin with?? Did you check it on the level in the morning?? 30 wt.is 30 wt and its too early for deterioration of the oil to be a factor. I'd lean to the fact that maybe your driving conditions are different.

Only way to tell for sure is to switch back I supose.

This confirms what I see over and over again with older vehicles. Mobil DC just seems to have much lower consumption for whatever reason. Confirmed with 1986 SAAB (300K+), 1994 Tracer (200K), 1996 Cavalier (130K). All use/leak much less oil when filled with Mobil DC. The old SJ oil was the same way.

I had a different experence with Mobil DC - it drastically increased oil consumption and leakage on my old '89 Cavalier with 160,000 on the odometer. Previous diet was mainly Valvoline All Climate 5w30 / Penzoil Dino 5w30. Oil consumption immediatly went from 1 qt /3000 miles to 1qt / 1000 miles. I was not a happy camper. Went back to Valvoline, and consumption returned to its "normal" of 1 qt / 3000 miles.

wow, this isn't good news. I stocked up on havoline 5w30 (Chevron Supreme) at the target 0.68 cent blowout. I haven't used any of it yet. my g/f has an oil burning 96 pontiac sunfire 93k miles 2.2 liter. The car calls for 5w30 year round, but it's burning a quart every 1500 miles. With summer about to start, I'm going to put in 10w30 exxon superflo to see how the engine responds since Exxon and Mobil are the same company now. Maybe I'll have some luck and oil consumption will slow down. The temps here will get into the upper 90's

Drifter, at 1,700 miles, I changed out the factory oil on my 175hp Nissan 2.5L Sentra and used Chevron Supreme 10W30.

After a month and approximately 1,200 miles, I had to add 1/8-1/4 of a quart to top off the crankcase completely.

Next oil change (free stealership service) is scheduled for June 20th. I'll leave that oil in until the end of July, beginning of August and begin using the Schaeffer oil I bought for this car.

It'll be interesting to see if initial consumption is better or worse with any of these oils as each change will be a switch in brand.

Kind of hard to draw any conclusions from my experience with this new car as all the parts get used to each other ... but I thought I'd post anyway.

i agree it is hard to draw up conclusions. everyone has had differnt experiances with this product and mobil drive clean and there is no way that we can judge it. its funnie, when i change to a differnt brand of oil i notice that i get a little more oil consumption...but after another oil change it decreases.

half of the reason can be my driving conditions. hehe 550 miles and having to add more was probably the high revvs.

my theroy for trying this oil was, 'you wont know until you tried'. also an alalysis would help, but i dont have enough time for that.

thansk for the reply guys. since its summer now and temps are already in the 90's ill hit up castrol gtx for a while until winter. ill stop trying to save 25 cents per bottle haha.

Mobile Drive clean did not hold up in any vechile I put it in. I was a quart shy on my newer vechile so I put 1 quart of drive clean in it. THe vechile has never burnt a drop of oil prior to this. It burnt exactly 1 qt in about 1000 miles. I topped off with M1 and did not have problem. That is the only time it ever burnt any oil. I used Drive clean again in my old 4Runner and agin it burnt oil like crazy. It went from burning about a 1/4 to 1/2 a quart ever 3000 miles to 1 qt. of oil a week. I ended up going through 4.5 quarts of oil in 3000 miles. I switched to other brands mostly Castrol and Pennzoil and it returned to normal. While I like M1 and Delvac Mobile Drive clean has not impressed me. THe VOA of it did not look to impressive either.

interesting johnbrowning.
hehe thanks for the replies. im just going to stop going cheap and hit up castrol. 10w30 should be fine.

I've never tried or seen Mobil Drive Clean, but from it's name I would assume it tries to clean something. If it starts cleaning carbon from around the rings and that interferes with their action, you will begin to see consumption til the can reseat. Had a customer last month who started with Delo. Runs 3000 km trips to the port. First trip worried him: 3 liters (Volvo truck), second trip 2 liters, 3rd trip 1 liter.
Now he is a happy camper. (previous oil was 2 lts/trip)

i know drive clean has a higher dosage of calcium...but only by maybe 1000. i used the oil for a year with no problems.

I was hopi g the scenario you just laid out was the case widman, but after three straight oil changes with the DC, it seemed that consumption was inceasing. After switching back to Valvoline, oil consumption returned to 1 qt /3000 miles, which is fine in my book.
