09 Tundra needs some new wheels.

Currently has 4 different 255 70 18's on.

I was liking the look of the lower profile tires.

What is the range about I could look for? I haven't the time yet to visit a tire shop, just looking around the interweb.

255 (40 or 50 - to...70) 18?

Just chatting here...go easy.

Tundra Talk (www.tundratalk.net) has an extensive discussion section on what fits the Tundra...spend some time over there.

If you like the lower profile look, go with 20" wheels and 275/55R20 tires, that is what's on my 2016 Tundra. Same outer diameter, slight increase in width in your 255/70R18 tires. They'll fit on your truck.

Just changing the profile (say, to a 255/60R18) while keeping the 18" wheels is going to give you much smaller overall diameter, which reduces ground clearance, negatively affects load capacity and throws your speedometer off. You don't want any of that. And, to be honest, those little tires would just look silly on a big truck...but the 20" wheels are a factory size and there are lots and lots of tire choices in the 275/55R20 size.

If it has steelies on it, it is likely 255/70R18. IMO, a bump in width may be justified; I drive lightly but still have a good amount of should wear up front.

LTX M/S2's are what I run for 3 seasons, Hankook iPikes for winter. IIRC I picked up the Hankooks for $500 during DTD's BF sale, paid $100 for a set of steelies, and $80 for mnt&bal. The LTX M/S2's were nearly a grand (no rims) mnt&bal. That was three years ago but I'd expect similar pricing. Albeit slightly more if you change tire sizes.

Good luck. I'd echo the sentiment about tundratalk, there was a section just for wheels IIRC.

I think low profile tires are not the greatest idea on a truck. Now if you only drive on pavement and no towing, its probably ok. Taller sidewalls probably ride better anyway.

I too think more tire and less wheel is best on a truck. To each their own though.

+1 ... I pound some long beat up washed out roads with a stiff short travel suspension ...
P285-17's are the other half of my suspension ...
Got 18" & 20" for the on the road ... where they belong ...

Changing to a 275/55R20 still gives you a six inch sidewall. Plenty for pretty much any condition and not something to worry about if you like the look.

F Sharp, since there is no G Flat, 265/60/20 is my go-to tire where 275/55/20s used to be.

If money is no object for the YO, my pick would be 265/70/18 Toyo CTs.

G Flat's my boy
