Indy shop told me the intermittent rattle and ticking is my timing chain

I thought it would last until my car died!

Can someone look up and tell me how many labor hours Chilton states for this car? My guess is 5-10 hours std labor?

Any other recommended parts? I am thinking, timing chain, cover gasket, tensioner for starters. Do I need new sprockets too typically?

Does my water pump, idler & tensioner belt pullies come off too with install? If so I am considering a premptive replacement of all them with the timing install.

Thanks guys in advance.

Why are you asking about labor hours? Are you having a shop do the work?

Yes you change the sprockets with the chain. They call that a timing chain set.

Do you mean chain tensioner? Because I don't think there is one.

Yes your water pump and it's pulley come off first and so does the crank pulley. Idler and tensioner probably do to. So changing your water pump now is a good idea. Make sure it has a life time warranty.

You might have to drop the front of the oil pan a little to clear the way for timing chain cover removal.

With that Camero, once you pull the radiator and fan shroud out, you got loads of room to work with. Piece-a-cake.

How many miles on that engine? Bad timing chain is pretty rare, especially for the 3.8 engine.
